The Eye of the Beholder

Just the other day, my sister was complaining to me about how drab and ugly the world is in winter time when it doesn't snow, and I realized that I don't have a stance on the matter. So I decided to have one. This is it. I like it. I do, I'm not just trying to be "accepting" and "open-minded". I really do think that it has a beauty of its own and that it deserves to be recognized even though we're disappointed by the lack of precipitation. Just look outside for a minute with a critical eye, unbiased by your desire for snow. Then consider who made all this. The sky with the sun and the clouds, and the mountains with their trees, snow-capped peaks, frosty rivers, and everything that lives on them. Consider who made it all, and then consider why. Now tell me it's ugly.

I believe that when one takes the time to seriously consider the world, the complexity of it, and the tiny pieces of it that fit so perfectly together... it's impossible to see anything but beauty.

So I guess what I'm getting at it that we should quit complaining. The next time you're about to whine about how "drab" that world is, stop yourself before your ingratitude gets the better of you.
